Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 23, 2026. This Privacy Policy explains how how-much-to-tip.com handles information when you use the tip calculator, tip calendar, and related guide pages.

Overview

The site is designed as a static front-end informational tool. It does not require an account, does not process payments, and does not ask you to submit calculator values to use the core tip calculator. However, the site may use hosting, security, analytics, and advertising services that process technical and usage data.

Information the site may collect

Calculator inputs. Amounts, percentages, and split-bill values entered into the calculator are intended to stay in your browser and are used to produce results on the page.

Basic technical data. Like most websites, the hosting provider, CDN, or server may automatically log information such as IP address, browser type, device data, referrer, pages viewed, timestamps, and similar request information for security, delivery, diagnostics, and performance.

Cookies and identifiers. Depending on how the site is configured over time, the site and its partners may use cookies, local storage, pixels, tags, or similar technologies to remember settings, measure traffic, and support advertising.

Direct communications. If you contact the site operator directly, the operator may receive the information you include in your message, including your email address and any other details you choose to provide.

Tip calendar: local records and backups

The tip calendar is free to use without an account. Tip amounts, currencies, dates, categories, names, notes, optional bill amounts, and unfinished drafts are stored in this browser on this device using IndexedDB. Display preferences may also be stored locally. The calendar does not upload these records to our servers or sync them across devices. Example entries are separate from your saved records.

Saved tips expire 90 days (about three months) after their first successful save, regardless of the expense date. Editing or importing a record does not extend that deadline. Expired records are excluded and removed when the calendar next checks its local data. Unfinished drafts also have a limited local lifetime and do not count toward totals. Clearing site data, using private browsing, or browser storage cleanup may remove records sooner; 90 days is a maximum, not a guarantee of availability.

You can download a JSON backup from Calendar options or Import / export data. It contains saved records and notes, including their original dates and expiry information, but not drafts or examples. Imports are processed in your browser, show a preview, and keep existing records when there is a conflict. Expired records cannot be restored to the calendar, even from a backup. A backup file you keep outside the browser does not expire automatically.

JSON backups are readable files and are not password-protected by this site. Keep them somewhere you trust, especially if your notes contain personal information. Image exports include notes only when you choose to include them and cannot restore editable records. Files are shared with another app or person only when you choose to share them.

The calendar page does not load Google Analytics or advertising scripts. Hosting providers still receive the technical requests needed to deliver the page and its assets. Other pages, including the calculator and this privacy page, use the analytics setup described below.

How information may be used

  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the website.
  • To troubleshoot availability, errors, abuse, or malicious traffic.
  • To understand traffic, page performance, and user behavior in aggregate.
  • To serve and measure advertising, including personalized or non-personalized ads where applicable.
  • To respond to messages or legal requests if you contact the site operator.
  • To comply with applicable law, regulation, or court order.

Cloudflare, analytics, and advertising

The site may use Cloudflare for content delivery, security, performance, and related infrastructure services. Cloudflare may process technical request data such as IP address and browser information in the course of delivering and protecting the site.

The site may use Google Analytics to understand traffic and how visitors use the site. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies and may collect information such as pages viewed, device and browser details, approximate location, and interactions with the site.

The site may use Google AdSense or related Google advertising products to display ads. Google and its partners may use cookies, mobile identifiers, local storage, or similar technologies to show and measure ads.

Where required by law or platform policy, the site may request user consent before enabling certain analytics or advertising features. When consent is available, ads may be personalized. When consent is not available or not granted, ads may be non-personalized or limited.

Sharing and disclosure

Information may be processed by service providers that help host, secure, deliver, measure, or monetize the site, including Cloudflare, Google Analytics, and Google advertising services. Information may also be disclosed if required by law, legal process, or a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to protect rights, property, or safety.

The site operator does not intend to sell personal information in the ordinary sense. However, advertising and measurement technologies may involve collection, processing, or sharing of identifiers and usage data as described above.

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. There is no universal standard for responding to these signals, so the site may not respond to them in a uniform way.

Children’s privacy

The site is not directed to children under 13, and the operator does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the calculator itself.

Your choices

You can often control cookies through your browser settings. You may also be able to manage advertising settings through Google’s ad settings and other privacy tools offered by third parties.

If the site uses a consent banner or consent management platform, you may be able to review and change your preferences there.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect operational, legal, or product changes. The “Last updated” date above should be revised when material changes are made.
